Posted by hooper8D - March 7th, 2025

im a first time zine maker currently making a comic zine with my characters, its going good so far but id like to know if anyone has any advice for distribution? its a small free comic zine that will have a handul of copies i plan to keep on hand to give to anyone interested, plant it in places for ppl to find etc. but id love some tips or reccomendations on doing so. hoping i could get my name out there with it and that it might fall into the hands of the right person yada yada. ya never know. anyway, any tips or ideas would be cool, thanx :^)

I guess the things to think about when distributing print:

- You will be binding the books yourself, thus consider the size of the paper you'll use. 8.5x11 is standard printer paper size, if you fold that down twice, you end up with 8 pages at around 4.5x5.5 - the tops will need to be trimmed, and if you add more pages, their offset will also need a second trim

- Saddle stitch will be a quick and easy method (staple the spine)

- Printed media is in CMYK. make sure your files are in that color setting. (RGB is web)

- color costs more. Full black interior with a color cover would be cool.

If you know your audience or who the comic would likely appeal to, look into places that you'd find those people. If the comic's very music-centric, then having it on a shelf in a trendy music shop would be a good fit. Bus stops, waiting areas, anywhere where people may spend time waiting in between doing things. If the owners/employees give you the OK, that's ideal but also don't be shy about slipping zines places as long as it doesn't put you in a legal bind.

thanks for the advice! this is very helpful, thank you! :)
